Can I use a bus lane?

Yes, any scooter rider has the use of all bus lanes and transit lanes in and around Sydney.

Can a Scooter be a good alternative to driving a car or using public transport?

Motor Scooters are a great alternative to driving a car for those shorter distances. The Scooter is far more environmentally friendly as well as significantly cheaper in terms of petrol consumption. It is easy to get around on a scooter, and Australia’s sunny and dry climate year round is particularly accommodating to their use. Driving a scooter is easy, convenient, cost effective and trendy! Motor Scooters vary in the speed they can reach depending on their engine size. This will affect the scooter purchased.

How Do I pay for my Scooter?

Customers at My-Scooter have a number of options for the payment of your scooter, to get you riding sooner. If upfront payment does not suit your needs we will arrange a finance package with a well respected and competitive institution providing loans to approved applicants.  Simple payment plans to accommodate your particular situation will be organised by My-Scooter, ranging from 24-monthto 36-month payments.

See Finance for details.

How much does it cost to run a scooter?

Once you have bought your scooter, you will realise that it is in fact very cheap to run. Petrol for your scooter will cost you around $5 for every 100 Kilometres. Of course there is also the benefit of not having to pay for parking spots that you would when driving a car. To register a scooter is cheaper to register other vehicles. Often using your scooter will work out cheaper than catching public transport, as well as more convenient.

How far can a full tank of petrol last me?

Depending on your size of the Scooter tank( ie 7 or 9 Litre ) , riding habits as well as landscape ( i.e. hills, etc ), a scooter will last between 175 and 280km on a full tank of petrol.

Are all scooters automatic?

Yes, all new Scooters are completely automatic, just twist and go!

What difference does engine size make?

Scooters vary in how fast they can ride depending on their engine size. The smallest engine size is 50cc and they range upwards from there to 200cc. While the smallest engine size are not able to reach the top speeds of scooters with larger engines, which are able to drive at 100 km/h. It is therefore important to establish the type of roads you will be driving on before choosing your scooter. If you will be on inner city or suburban roads mainly driving at 50km/h then a 50cc is adequate. However, driving on roads with higher speed limits may require a scooter with a greater engine capacity.

How fast do Scooters go?

Depending on the Scooter, the range is between 80km/hr to 110km/hr. If you are looking for something around the city, a 100CC will reach speeds of up to 80-90km/hr. For people living outside the city and are confronted with hills, etc, a 125/150CC would be a better choice and will comfortably have you moving along at 80-100km/hr. If more speed is required, a 200 or 250cc Scooter will sit on 110km/hr comfortably and still have room to increase speed if required.

How much warranty comes with a Scooter?

My-Scooter provides 24-month warranties for all of the scooters sold to our customers.

How about servicing a Scooter

Most manufactures recommend that scooters should get their first service done at 500Km, a second service at 2500 and the 3rd service at 5,000. After this, its recommended at 5,000km intervals (i.e. 10,000 would be the next Service).

My Scooter has 2 fully trained mechanics manning 3 fully operational service bays at the rear of the store. Service can be done 7 days per week, but given the Scooter boom, its recommended to book your service in about a week before needing attention.

How secure are Scooters? Do I need to lock them up like a bicycle? Do they have immobilisers like cars?

A disc Lock attached to either the front or back break disc of the scooter will keep your scooter secure wherever you park it.

Alternatively, a simple chain lock can also be used to secure your scooter. These are used by attaching the scooter to an immovable object to prevent it from being lifted. They can also be used around the wheel to prohibit the scooter being driven.

Electronic immobilisers can also be professionally fitted onto some scooters if they do not already come with one. These prevent the scooter from being driven by anyone other than the owner, who can disable and then reactivate the scooters electrical system.

When securing your Scooter, much of it comes down to common sense. Try to park in well-lit areas or in a garage when possible, and lock your scooter.

Where can I park my Scooter? Bike rack? On the street? Or like a car?

Scooters can be parked in most places, providing it does not obstruct vehicle or pedestrian traffic flow in any way. You can park at a bike rack or on the street like a car. However, the RTA NSW states ‘Drivers or riders must not stop or park on a nature strip, footpath, shared path, bicycle path, or dividing strip in a built up area unless permitted by signposting’.
